EV Charger Installation Cost, and the Credit That Ended

A Level 2 home charger costs about 450 to 660 dollars from the makers as of October 2026. Two installer guides from March 2026 put installation at roughly 750 to 2,500 dollars, or 1,500 to 2,750 with the charger included, before any panel upgrade, which adds 1,500 dollars or more. The 30 percent federal credit that some installer sites were still advertising in September ended for equipment placed in service after June 30, 2026. Here is the full cost stack, the breaker-size table from the makers' own manuals, why plug-in outlets trip, how a 100-amp panel can sometimes take a charger, and which rebates are still paying.
