Your Phone Has Satellite SOS. Do You Need an inReach?
A newer iPhone or Pixel can already text emergency services by satellite, so buy a separate device only if you need SOS that works when the phone is dead, two-way texts to anyone, or coverage outside your phone's list of countries. For most people that is the Garmin inReach Messenger at $299.99, which Notebookcheck lists as keeping SOS on a suspended plan. The inReach Mini 3 ($449.99) types messages without a phone, ZOLEO's device costs $199 but its 50-message plan costs more, and the ACR ResQLink 400 beacon needs no plan.
