Roofline: Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 or 2 Pro
Permanent outdoor lights mount under the eaves and stay up all year, so the same string does Christmas, Halloween and plain white porch light. Govee says the Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 have 100 scene modes, a white light of 40 lumens per bulb, IP67-rated lights and an IP65-rated control box, and that it fixes them with the included VHB adhesive and clips.
Three limits matter before you order. Govee says this string “cannot be cut,” that its extension fits only the 50- and 100-foot packs with the total kept to 150 feet, and that it is “Incompatible with the first generation” of its permanent lights. For this model it also warns to “Install only to a covered Class A GFCI receptacle,” so you need a covered, weatherproof GFCI outlet near where the string starts. Govee’s page also notes that the Permanent Outdoor Lights Elite and the Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 have identical specifications.
The Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 Pro fixes the cutting problem. Govee says you can “cut, extend, or reconnect” it to fit complex rooflines, and a Y connector splits the run into separately controlled sections. Each light shows two layers of color, the lights and Y connector are rated IP68, and its whites run from 1000K to 10000K. The Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism, at $699.99 for 150 feet, sits above both, and it installs with the included adhesive and “pre-drilled screws.”
How much roofline to buy
Govee’s own guidance is that 50 or 100 feet “may meet your needs” for a tiny home, bungalow or two-story home, and 100 or 150 feet for a cottage or larger home. It suggests walking around the house to estimate the length, and says a single pack of the Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 can’t go past 150 feet even with extensions, so a bigger house may need more than one pack. The bulbs sit 417 millimeters apart, about 16 inches.

What one installer, Trimlight, charges
Trimlight, a company that sells professionally installed permanent lighting through dealers, says its systems “typically” cost $18 to $35 per linear foot installed, in its 2026 pricing guide. Its own example for a small single-story home with about 100 to 150 feet of roofline is $2,500 to $3,500 for the front only, which it calls “national averages, not a quote.” That price includes the lights, an aluminum channel, a controller and app, professional installation and a lifetime product warranty, so it is not the same product as Govee’s $279.99 100-foot kit that you put up yourself.

Christmas tree: Christmas String Lights 2
Govee recommends 66 feet of its Christmas String Lights 2 for a 6-foot tree, 99 feet for a 7.5-foot tree and 164 feet for a 9-foot tree. The lights are rated IP65, Govee says they work from -20°C to 40°C, and they can be controlled with Alexa, Google Home and Matter. Govee’s product page says the 66- to 164-foot sets use IP44 power adapters, and says to put the adapter “in a dry area or in an outdoor waterproof box.”
Each bulb can show its own color, and Govee lists more than 130 preset scenes. Its “Shape Mapping” feature works out where each bulb sits on the tree so that patterns follow the shape, and its AI Lighting Bot makes effects from “voice, text, or image prompts.” For a gift, the 66-foot length at $99.99 is the one that fits a typical 6-foot tree.

Windows and gutters: Curtain Lights 2 or Icicle Lights
The Curtain Lights 2 model at $109.99 is a 4.9 by 6.6 foot panel of 520 LEDs that shows animations and photos, and Govee says it works indoors and outdoors with an IP65 rating. Govee notes that this size “does not support splicing.”
The RGBIC Icicle Lights come in 32.8- and 65.6-foot lengths, with IP67-rated lights. Govee says the IP44-rated power adapter “must be kept inside a waterproof box” outdoors, and that series connections are not supported.

Behind the TV: TV Backlight 3 Lite or TV Backlight 3
Both TV kits use a camera that watches the screen and matches the strip’s color to it. Govee says the 3 Lite “captures the color of any TV screen content,” so it isn’t tied to one streaming box. The TV Backlight 3 Lite fits TVs from 4 to 35 millimeters thick, and Govee says it needs 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi; “5GHz is not supported.” Its page lists Alexa and Google Assistant control, does not mention Matter, and says “It is not compatible with curved TVs.”
The TV Backlight 3 ($109.99 for 55- to 65-inch TVs) adds two 4-megapixel lenses and AI color mapping. Its page mentions Matter only in a heading about syncing Govee lights, while its spec table lists app and voice control.
The 3 Lite’s page says the lights switch off “when detecting a blank or static screen,” and the TV Backlight 3’s black-screen detection “Reduces power consumption when the display is dark.” Govee’s DreamView feature can sync the 3 Lite with up to 7 other Govee lights in the room. If you are still choosing what to watch on, the Fire TV Stick guide compares Amazon’s streaming sticks.

A room: neon rope, light strips or a floor lamp
The Neon Rope Light 2 bends into shapes on a wall with its clips and works with the Govee Home app, Matter, Alexa and Google Assistant; its page notes “No 5G Wi-Fi,” and Govee’s FAQ answers “Absolutely!” when asked about large outdoor decorations, though the page gives no water rating. The LED Strip Light 2 Pro can be cut, has 10 segments per meter, and adds tunable white from 1000K to 10000K. For a budget strip that still looks finished, the RGBIC LED Strip Lights with Covers include a diffuser channel and can be cut or connected up to 32.8 feet. Govee says the channel suits skirting, ceilings and cabinets, and says to use inside and outside corner pieces at corners. The Floor Lamp 3 Lite ($119.99) is rated at 1,400 lumens.

Do Govee lights work with Apple Home?
Govee’s route into Apple Home is Matter. Govee’s Matter FAQ says you need a “Matter-certified Govee product” and a Matter hub, and for Apple it lists the HomePod mini, HomePod (2nd generation) and Apple TV 4K (2nd generation, or 3rd generation Wi-Fi + Ethernet 128GB model), with iOS 16.2 or later. The same FAQ says setup needs a phone on your 2.4 GHz network, that an IPv6 network “is required,” and that the first Matter setup has to be finished within 15 minutes of powering the light on.
Two cautions. The FAQ’s own list of Matter products names only the M1 Strip Light, so a product page that mentions Matter is Govee’s marketing, not the FAQ’s certification list; check the box or the Govee Home app’s device settings for a Matter code before you count on it. And over Matter you get only the basics: the FAQ says the “Currently supported features include switching on/off, brightness adjustment, color temperature adjustment, and color changing,” so Govee’s animated scenes stay in its own app. The TV Backlight 3 Lite’s page lists Alexa and Google Assistant without Matter, and the strip lights with covers page lists only the Govee Home app. Separately, the 2 Pro’s page lists Apple Watch control.
For cheaper Matter plugs and bulbs to build around, see the budget smart home guide.
Before you buy one as a gift
- Measure first. Govee suggests walking around the house to estimate how much roofline you need, and says the Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 extension keeps a single pack at 150 feet or less.
- Check the outlet. Govee says the Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 need a covered GFCI outlet, and the icicle and string light adapters need to stay dry or sit in a waterproof box.
- Check the Wi-Fi. The TV Backlight 3 Lite needs 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Renters: the Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 fix to the eaves with adhesive and clips, and the Prism kit includes screws, so ask the landlord before installing either. The string, curtain and icicle lights hang without permanent fixings, though Govee markets them for year-round use too.
